This is my favorite video I've created this semester. We had tons of fun creating the video. We were able to get into the construction zone, which only two other students were allowed to do. We were able to see the construction workers building the new school right in front of our eyes. There weren't many issues that we had constructing the video, but one of our interviewees decided that they didn't want to be in the video and backed out, but we were able to overcome and still create an awesome video!
The Story is about the construction at LHWHS. In the beginning I introduce the story and talk about the construction. In the middle we see interviews from a student, a football coach and a former student. In the end I finish talking about construction and wrap up the story. The characters in my story are my self, Mr. Ramirez, Brandon and Solomon Owolabi. I am the main character and the others are supporting characters. My audience should care because it directly impacts the students and how they learn. Grade: 88. Things I excelled at; Interviews, Getting B-Roll and Editing the video. Things I need to improve; Sound and getting better shots.

My first idea for this project was a music video, however my classmate and I didn't have the time to complete the idea. So plan B, make a video about something that is important to me. I decided to create a video about the new NBA season that just started. This video was different for me. I always wanted to make a "Top Ten" video, this was my first attempt at one. I ended up revising the video and added credits and background music. I really thought these videos were easy to create but a lot of work and research goes into the creation. The hardest part was writing the script. It was difficult to describe it to someone who doesn't keep up with the NBA. I really enjoyed making this video, I will definitely try to make another video like this. My next video will be a news package type video, about the construction that is taking place at my school. It will be finished and uploaded around Nov. 30th.
Over the past week and a half, me and my class have been practicing the basic shots that compose a film. Here are a few of my favorite shots.
Shot 1- Extreme Close-Up, I really appreciate this shot because it gives a good look on expression and can also reveal certain things to the audience. Shot 2- Full Shot, This (along with medium) is the most basic shots to capture, It is used the most often. Shot 3- Extreme /Low Angle, This shot is great, it can reveal thing to the viewers, it also just gives the viewer something different to look at. Shot 4- Medium Shot, Again this is one of the most popular and basic shots in film, it just shows the main point(s) of interest. Shot 5- Close-Up, A close-up is also used a lot, it is used to show emotion and to focus on just one thing. Shot 6- Birds Eye, This was the most difficult to capture, to was hard to get in the right position to make the shot look ok. My most recent video was about the recent sit-in at Ladue High School. The sit-in occurred during the last class of the day. They talked about community issues both in the school and in their city. They also discussed the Jason Stockley verdict that caused many protests.
The Good: I got tons of film, and had awesome b-roll. The Bad: Becuase of some technical issues and procrastination I missed the due date for the project, I will do everything in my power to make sure this doesn’t happen again. The Ugly: For the last two interviews there was no audio, this was really bad because I felt these were the best interviews, but I do feel like the project turned out great Solar Eclipse 2017 at Ladue Horton Watkins High SchoolIt was a great, once in a life time event. I'm so glad I got to enjoy this event, especially from my school. It was also very cool to see the reactions from my classmates. The Interviews afterwards were amazing. This was the first video package I've made in over a year and I think it turned out great. Thanks for everyone who was apart of the video Interview with YonWe interviewed Yan Rybak. He talked about his project he is doing for his world history class. I think it was really fun, and we got a lot of film. We interviewed a second person, but we didn't need to use that footage. I think the project was fun and it was very interesting to learn about what other classes are doing. Newscast ReflectionsWe worked really hard on the script, we took along time editing it and revising it. All of worked really hard to make sure we had no errors in the script. I think that we did really good. One thing I could've did better in is to slow down. At some points I felt like I talked to fast to make the time shorter. i think I should've read the script more to get more familiar with it and not feel as nervous. because I didn't look confident. I think we did really well and everyone worked super hard. Interview with a professionalDuring the making of the video learned a lot of thing about maintenance, like what certifications you need to do things like repair a broken AC. My greatest success was getting the actual film for the video, the easiest part was putting it together. The biggest challenge for me was getting the b-roll, because I didn't get enough footage for it, so i had to use pictures of him and use little footage of him cleaning a AC. I also couldn't get a second interview, he was very busy and kept having to push back the interview.
Visual Story TellingI think visual story telling is one of the best ways to tell a story, you can use it to show emotion and how people react to things other people do. Shooting TipsYou can use WALLDO to tell stories or add to the story you're telling. If you are using an ipad or a phone, make sure your hand doesn't cover the microphone. SoundsSound is the most important part of a video. Without sound the story wouldn't make since. You can use things like NAT. sound to add to the story also. InterviewingInterviewing people can be hard, but it doesn't have to be, it'a just conversation. You can edit out bad parts, and use sound bites to help the story develop more. Sound Bites are very important in a interview. EditingUsing imovie you can edit things very easily. You can cut footage to make the video shorter. Use it to get the best sound bites from your interview, using imovie will make the editing process much easier. ResearchIt is very important to research your topic before interviewing someone on it. If you don't it will make you look unprofessional and inexperienced. If you want to tell a story to someone it is VERY important that you know about the topic.
